Lotus Notes Ultra Rapid Application Development
An interesting piece from Daivd Gurteen about how you can use Lotus Notes as a RAD tool. Many users who have seen the power of Lotus Notes know that it can be effectively used as RAD tool, letting managers quickly grasp a concept, while at the same time providing ability to do in-depth programming. From Gurteen: ""We would never spend more than a couple of hours initially on the application - but they would go away with a prototype application that they could start to use/enter data in - think about as appropriate. If it looked promising we would spend more time at other so called ""Notes Surgery"" until we had a fully working application. For some people - we would teach them some basic Notes development skills and let them complete or add to the application - even one or two secretarial/admin level staff. We probably never spent more than 3 days on any one application.""

Lotus Notes - RAD : Good news or Bad news?
Mike Golding's hot blog about whether the RAD features of Lotus Notes has resulted in too many poorly coded applications and a bad name for the platform. Excerpts: ""The point here is that the tag RAD can be dangerous, rushed apps and shoddy implementations with little thought for usability don't do anybody any favours, they just cause damage in the long run. Lotus are SLOWLY learning this, developers need to do the same.""
